Memories of My Sister

Doctor Margo Shamberger Prade

It is hard to use the word memories in regard to my youngest sister. Margo is the baby of our family of seven children. Memories denotes something of the past that is remembered. How can that be the word that is used in regards to someone that loved life and serving her fellow man so much? It is the word that was forced on our family Nov. 26, 1997, when Dr. Margo Shamberger Prade was murdered. Her murder was such a shock, that it shook the foundations of our family. It was so hard to hold on and wait on God to reveal the person that had taken her life. No person or family should go through this trauma. Her family and friends are the other victims of this crime.

Margo was a very happy baby. She was loved and spoiled by the whole family, especially by our great-grandmother Big Mama. If Margo could not have her way she would bump her head or pinch Big Mama's hand. She always wanted to be a doctor. This was her response to the question of "what are you going to be when you grow up?": "I am going to be a doctor and take care of people." Margo had to really work to attain her goal. There were many stumbling blocks placed in her way but these were overcome. I think she would ask us all to encourage children to work hard and let no one say that you can not be or do --what you want to in this life. Margo was an excellent student. She was helped by many in the community to attain her educational and professional goal. In turn she helped others and did not forget the community from which she came.

Margo loved her children and always wanted them to have a stable family life. This resulted in her staying in a verbally abusive relationship for seventeen years. When she determined that her marriage was hurting, not helping, her or her children, she divorced her husband. Margo was murdered by her ex-husband seven months later.

All those that are in abusive relationships tell others of the threats, file police complaints. Do not have to use the word memories for your loved ones.
